Wisconsin updates ethics rules, follows many ABA changes

On Jan. 5, 2007, the Wisconsin Supreme Court issued order 04-07 formally adopting changes to Chapter 20, the Rules of Professional Conduct for Attorneys, effective July 1, 2007. The Wisconsin Bar offers information about the changes.



Lawyers sharing computers and offices must protect client confidences

Professional ethics opinion E-00-02 considers lawyers sharing office space, support staff, and equipment with unrelated entities. The Rules of Professional Conduct do not prohibit lawyers from sharing office space, support staff, or equipment with either another lawyer or a nonlawyer provided adequate protection is taken to protect clients’ interests.
