- BADGER The Bay Area Digital GeoResource (BADGER) is an on-line visualization system for geographic data of the San Francisco Bay Area developed from satellite and aerial imagery, maps and databases. Environmental features, underground services, property lines, municipal zones, census data and demographic information are depicted in BADGER's multi-layer visualization system.
- Bannister Research and Consulting Bannister Research & Consulting(BRC) is a geological consulting firm, specializing in water supply exploration, development, and testing.
- BIN21 BIN21 offers a comprehensive collection of links to biodiversity resources worldwide.
- Brownfields The Brownfields Initiative is an EPA effort to "empower states, communities, and other stakeholders in economic development to work together in a timely manner to prevent, assess, safely clean up, and sustainably use brownfields." Brownfields are defined as "abandoned, idled, or under-used industrial and commercial facilities where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination." This website offers answers to frequently asked questions about brownfields, overviews of the 28 national and 12 regional pilot projects, information on submitting a proposal for a pilot project, and a list of brownfields contacts. Liability guidance documents and other brownfields related publications can be viewed or downloaded from the webpage.
- Canadian Environmental Defence Fund The Canadian Environmental Defence Fund.
- Canadian Toxic Release Inventory (NPRI) Searchable database of toxic releases in Canada. The National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) is an interactive mapping database which allows for the visualization of the 1993 National Pollutant Release Inventory Data. The NPRI dataset consists of point source release information of 178 pollutants by 1466 Canadian industries utilizing these substances.
- Cancer Information Cancer related resources and information.
- CANCERLIT CANCERLIT is a database of citations and abstracts covering all aspects of cancer research: causes, therapy, carcinogenicity, etc. This gopher site presents the most recent 6 months of citations and abstracts in two formats: arranged by broad topic (i.e. endocrine cancers, neurologic cancers) or as a searchable index. A search on the term "lung" returned a number of references addressing environmental and occupational hazards relating to lung cancer.
- CEC "The Commission for Environmental Cooperation was established by Canada, Mexico and the United States in 1994 to address transboundary environmental concerns in North America. While the idea to create such a commission originated during the negotiations of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), it derives its formal mandate from the North American Agreement for Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC). The Agreement (NAAEC) builds upon, and complements the environmental provisions established in NAFTA. It creates a North American framework whereby trade and environment-related goals can be pursued in an open and cooperative way."
- Chemfinder Chemfinder allows you to search for a chemical by name, formula, MW, CAS RN, and substructure.
- Chemical Fact Sheets These Chemical Fact Sheets are produced by the Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics to provide a brief summary of information on selected chemicals. The Fact Sheets cover each chemical's identity, production and use, environmental fate, and health and environmental effects. They also include a list of laws under which the chemical is regulated, phone numbers, and the names of the EPA offices and other Agencies one can call or contact for more information. Each Fact Sheet is also accompanied by a Chemical Summary, a technical support document that provides detailed technical information on the chemical named in the Fact Sheets.
- CIEL The Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) is a public interest not-for-profit environmental law firm that deals with the issues of global commons, biodiversity and wildlife, international financial institutions, trade and the environment, and policy analysis and capacity building.
- CIESIN "The Consortium for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) facilitates access to data and information on human interactions in the environment, global environmental change, and sustainable development. The CIESIN Gateway provides access to a distributed catalog that identifies data and information resources relevant to these topics. The Gateway is unique in that it conducts simultaneous search and retrieval across diverse databases worldwide. Users should examine search tips to determine the best Gateway search strategy."
- CIMAS The Contaminant Information Management and Analysis System (CIMAS) is a web-based application capable of interfacing with DBMS and GIS software and allows users to access the data by refuge, contaminant, contaminant study, or trust species. There is, however, a warning that this represents the initial release of the system, not a final release, and that accuracy of the data is not guaranteed at this time. The CIMAS system is scheduled for future enhancements.

Valuable resource to locate information on environmental issues and action by the non-profit community.

- ICE House at UC Davis The Information Center For the Environment (ICE House). "ICE is a cooperative effort of an interdepartmental team of environmental scientists at the University of California, Davis and collaborators at over thirty private, state, federal, and international environmental organizations." Contains a great deal of experimental and provisional information, but the link to the California Rivers Assessment (CARA) is helpful and should give you an idea of how GIS analyses can be used.
- Industrial Pollution Projection System (IPPS) The World Bank's Industrial Pollution Projection System (IPPS), a modeling system that provides a means for projecting industrial pollution for geographic areas or projects, is available via the World Wide Web. The system was developed to assist environmental and industrial professionals, particularly those working with developing countries which rarely possess data regarding their own pollution, estimate pollution outputs based on the level of industrial activity, sectoral composition, and process technologies. This website offers both the executive summary and the full-text of the research report, and access to the datasets in both ASCII and Lotus spreadsheet format. Numerous tables and figures are included in the research report. The data contained in the datasets cover approximately 200,000 facilities in the U.S., 1,500 product categories, all operating technologies, and hundreds of pollutants.

- National Library for the Environment The National Library for the Environment is operated by the Center for the National Institute of the Environment. The library will consist of three on-line components: Congressional Research Service Reports, an encyclopedia of the environment, and in-depth environmental Issues. Currently, over 100 congressional reports are available and arranged by a subject index. A searchbale title index is also available.

- NYS Spatial Data New York State Spatial Data Clearinghouse. "The purpose of the Clearinghouse is to allow producers of geographic data to describe what datasets they have available and to allow users of Geographic Information Systems to find the datasets they need." You can find demographic, environmental, geologic, hydrogeologic, and much more information.
- Nuclear information Nuke -- the Nuclear Information World Wide Web Server -- offers links to nuclear information.
- The Plastic Bag Information Clearinghouse"The Plastic Bag Association, a consortium of 60 industry manufacturers and suppliers, maintains a website for its Information Clearinghouse. The Information Clearinghouse provides information and services that benefit both consumers and the industry by fostering a greater awareness of how recycling, plastic bags, and the environment fit together. The PBA maintains a database of more than 14,000 plastic bag recycling sites; consumers can locate their nearest site by calling a 1-800 number provided. Educational resources, such as essay contests, teaching tips, and curriculum enhancers are offered. Consumers are provided with a list of recycling do's and don'ts, a short glossary of recycling terms, an environmental IQ quiz, and information on the life of a plastic bag."

- Wildlife Laws "The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service has published material for international travellers, hunters, collectors, etc. (as well as Service personnel) to understand better the laws related to fish and wildlife conservation. The Digest of Federal Resource Laws, which summarizes the Federal laws governing natural resources of interest to the Service, was published in April 1992. Some of these files have been updated since the 1992 publication, and a more complete update is being prepared under a grant from the Service's Federal Aid program."
